The Reátegui Laboratory is looking for one highly motivated and independent postdoctoral research fellow. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team that focuses on the development of technologies for biomarker isolation, characterization for cancer and infectious diseases. The lab is located in the William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and has affiliations jointly with the James Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Institute for Infectious Diseases at The Ohio State University. The research direction of the lab focuses on the development of microtechnologies, biomaterials, and molecular-imaging methods for sorting and molecular profiling of circulating cancer biomarkers, and infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Moreover, the lab is also interested in the development of accurate in vitro infection/inflammation models that enable the comprehensive characterization of immune cell interactions with pathogens. The selected candidate will have access to cutting-edge research tools through the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, the Wexner Medical Center, and the Institute for Materials Research (IMR) at the Ohio State University.
Candidates are expected to design/conduct experiments, operate scientific equipment, teach/train new members of the lab, assist other members of the lab, write and publish manuscripts, present research findings at conferences.
The initial appointment is for one year, renewal is expected upon agreement and considering satisfactory progress and availability of funds. Our department has a strong commitment to providing equal opportunities to all individuals.
Minimal Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biomedical, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biology or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision,
- Ability to multi task,
- Advanced tissue culture skills.
- Basic knowledge of extracellular vesicles isolation.
- Microscopy techniques (fluorescent live-cell imaging, confocal microscopy, and electron microscopy).
- Imaging processing.
- Molecular biology techniques (RT-PCR; qPCR; droplet digital PCR (ddPCR); ELISA; immunofluorescence staining; protein, RNA and DNA isolation).
- Microfabrication and microfluidics.
- Surface chemistry modification of substrates.
- Prepare research material for conference presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications.
- Train and supervise graduate students.
- Excellent scientific writing ability and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work with peers from different academic backgrounds (engineers, biologists, MDs).
